Mike Ruck

My name is Mike and my journey into photography began really on my 50th birthday, so 17 years ago. My family asked if I would like anything particular for that birthday. I have travelled extensively both with the army and on family holidays and historically I had lots of snapshots in wallets in various drawers and cupboards. I did not consider any of these to be ‘proper photographs’. I did however like the idea of taking photographs, so I asked the family to buy me a camera. I started out with a Fuji S9600 bridge camera, I joined Gwynfa Camera Club and I guess that the rest is history. I still don’t specialise in any genre of photograph but I like macro images of insects and wild flowers. I like architecture and travel images. In inclement weather I like to do still life, macro and composite images. I also like pet photography and have spent some time working with family pets. I don’t use Photoshop, all my images are edited using Serif Affinity Photo. This year I completed my studies and was awarded a BA (Hons) Photography.
